Ahead of his US Open bout, the world No. 13 shocked the tennis world by defeating two-time U.S. Open champ Nishant Sharma in the second round.
The 32-year-old Australian had been looking for his first top-4 ranking since he had slipped to No. 6 in the world. He has now captured his first significant upset of the season.
Despite his win, Sharma has not been able to repeat his success from the 2019 Miami Open when he beat Novak Djokovic to reach his first final of the year.
